Here’s a question for you….
How do you live in a land of growing evil while keeping your soul in good shape?
According to faithful men of old, meditating on God’s law must be part of your daily practice.
When Joshua was leading Israel out of paganism into the Promised Land, the Lord told him to meditate on His law day and night for success (Josh. 1:8).
In a similar way…
The first Psalm tells us the righteous man delights in God’s law while meditating on it constantly (Ps.1:2)… leading to a fruitful life.
And the Apostle Paul urges believers…
Not to be conformed to the world but transformed by the renewing of the mind…
… which effectively has been done for centuries by meditating on God’s precepts (Rom. 12:1-2).
Unfortunately, we have become a nation where God’s law is ignored, or scoffed at.
Even churches are reluctant to teach what scripture commands.
And as a result, we have become like the people of Nineveh who, morally speaking, don’t know their right hand from the left (Jon. 4:11).
In such an environment it’s essential to have God’s Word dwelling in your heart.
“The Law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple” (Ps. 19:7)?
This occurs as God’s law…
- Reveals His character to us.
- Restrains us from pursuing evil.
- And points us to our need for Jesus.
So if you’re trying to navigate these times faithfully…
Hide God’s Word in your heart.
It will keep you from straying and be a light to your path.
