Jesus revealed an overlooked yet vital aspect of His ministry when He said:
“For this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth” (Jn. 18:37).
As His followers, we share this purpose…
God calls us to bear witness to the truth.
But this is hard for us.
And in a culture where institutions suppress the truth and cherish lies we are tempted to go along just to survive.
Yet, as those given a mandate to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, the Lord expects more from us (Mt. 6:33).
Therefore, we must get good at bearing witness to the truth… even when it’s hard.
So how do we get better at this?
A few ideas…
1. Love the truth (1 Cor. 13:6).
2. Abide in the truth (Jn. 8:31-32).
3. Commit to speaking the truth (Eph. 4:15).
And…
Always keep in mind…
God doesn’t ask us to invent the truth, but only bear witness to it.
Putting on the ‘belt of truth’ (Eph. 6:14) in this way is a big part of our shared calling in Christ.
And it is the way healing and restoration for people and nations.
So go bring the truth to bear wherever you can.
