I’m sure you’ve heard it claimed “Christians are so heavenly-minded they’re no earthly good.”
Unfortunately, there’s some truth in this…
Particularly among believers sitting around waiting for the rapture as they watch the world go to hell.
But…
For most of history since Christ walked the earth, the opposite has been the case…
It’s Christians who have brought so much good to the world…
– Hospitals
– Schools
– Science and Technology
– Economic development
– Liberty and Justice for all
– Value and dignity of every life
– Charity and compassion
If you look at the record, it’s Christians who have championed and led the way in these areas.
So don’t buy the line about Christians being so heavenly-minded they’re no earthly good.
Yet, at the same time…
Use the claim to motivate you to stay engaged and bring all the good you can to the world around you…
As you use your gifts, time, resources, opportunities to the fullest.
The earth belongs to the Lord (Ps. 24:1).
From the beginning He has called us to rule and cultivate the world as His representatives (Gen. 1:26-28; 2:15).
And in Christ we take part in making ‘all things new’ with Him today (Rev. 21:5).
