In the book Born for Battle, there is a great illustration of the importance of fighting your battles from the right position…
During the Battle of Britain, the only way the outnumbered fighter pilots of the Royal Air Force could defeat approaching German bombers was to get above them as quickly as possible.
So, once enemy planes were spotted by radar, RAF squadrons would scramble in a desperate effort to get in position over the incoming enemy planes.
Getting the altitude they needed was the only way for them to gain a fighting chance.
The situation we face in our own battles for God’s kingdom is not unlike those RAF pilots.
We must get in the right position to be effective and gain the victory!
Yet we have an advantage over those World War II pilots.
Instead of having to scramble and fight for the altitude we need, we can get there immediately by faith in any situation.
The Bible tells us God has raised us up and seated us with Christ in the heavenly places (Eph. 2:6).
And it urges us to set our minds on the things above (Col. 3:2)…
Not as an escape from our earthly battles, but as a way to be sourced and equipped to engage them.
So as you consider your own battles, get yourself in the right position.
Don’t fight them in fleshly ways out of fear.
Instead, engage them with confidence in a position of perspective and strength from above.
By faith, you can get the altitude you need in an instant.
