The company you keep

The book of Proverbs is a training manual for sons of kings.

Its purpose is to help them live wisely and become leaders in their own right.

As such, Proverbs remains an important source of guidance for those who are sons of the King of kings today.

A major theme of the book is for sons to be choosy with their companions.

It says…

“The righteous should choose his friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray” (Pr. 12:26).

This originally applied to flesh and blood friends you would spend time with in person.

But today we must include “virtual companions,” which include…

… celebrities we follow, sources of our news, books we read, entertainment we consume, and more.

The influence of our companions cannot be overstated.

They either help or hinder our ability to serve God faithfully where He has commissioned us.

So think hard about who you spend your time with.

Choose your peeps carefully–both in the real world and the virtual one.

“Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm” (Pr. 13:20).
