Eight Key Principles for Dealing with Problems

by | Jan 30, 2025

Trouble is inevitable.

And how we handle it determines whether we grow or get crushed under its weight.

No one is immune either.

As the book of Job says:

“Man is born to trouble as surely as sparks fly upward.” — Job 5:7

The question is not whether we will encounter problems, but how we will deal with them.

We may be tempted to ignore them, obsess over them, or try to fix them in our own strength.

But rather than being ruled by fear or frustration, God provides a better way.

Here are eight biblical principles to help you face your problems with faith and wisdom…

1. Trust in God’s Sovereignty

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5-6

Problems are opportunities to trust God’s wisdom rather than relying on our own reasoning.

2. Pray for Wisdom and Strength

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given to him.” — James 1:5

Turning to God in prayer invites His guidance and help in difficulties.

3. Persevere Through Trials

“Consider it pure joy, my brethren, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” — James 1:2-3

Trials are not pointless; they refine our character and faith.

4. Cast Your Burdens on God

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7

We don’t have to carry our burdens alone—God calls us to give them to Him.

5. Seek Godly Counsel

“Where there is no guidance, the people fall, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.”
— Proverbs 11:14

Wise counsel from mature believers can provide clarity and encouragement.

6. Do Not Fear—God is with You

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” — Isaiah 41:10

God’s presence gives us confidence and courage in the face of troubles.

7. Overcome Evil with Good

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” — Romans 12:21

Even in adversity, we are called to respond with righteousness and integrity.

8. Remember that God Works All Things for Good

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” — Romans 8:28

Even when things are difficult, God is working behind the scenes for our ultimate good.

A Final Thought…

Take a moment to reflect: What problem is weighing on you today?

Which of these principles do you need to apply?

Ask God for wisdom, seek His guidance, and take the next faithful step.
