God is Personal

A long time ago I read a lot of Francis Schaeffer’s work.

The big idea that stuck with me all these years is that God is personal.

Schaeffer really drove that point home–and it’s a point we all need to remember.

It’s too easy to think of God as just a far-off ideal.

But God is personal, and He is near.

He’s not just a concept to study.

He’s a Father to know… A Friend to walk with… A Master to serve…

And a Co-laborer with whom to partner in His mission to the world.

When we remember God is personal, everything takes on new meaning.

Life is no longer random or without purpose.

It has value because you are a personal part of His plan.

God’s love, too, is not abstract.

It’s real and personally applied to us–especially in His Son.

And when we face trials, we are never alone.

God is not some distant observer—He is walking with us through every moment, working all things for good.

God is personal.

This changes everything.

And it compels us to consider how we are living with Him, not just for Him–in all he give us to do.

“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you” (James 4:8).
