Neutrality feels polite but exposes us to darkness…
We live in a time where being “soft on distinctions” has become a habit.
We blur lines, shrug at differences, and avoid speaking with clarity—because clarity might offend.
But Scripture doesn’t allow us to remain neutral.
Good and evil are not vague categories.
They are realities. And God calls us to discern between them.
The prophet Isaiah warned:
“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness” (Isa. 5:20).
When we fail to make distinctions, we’re in dangerous territory.
Kind intentions alone can’t shield us from deception.
Discernment is required—and it’s a mark of maturity.
“But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil” (Heb. 5:14).
Notice the words: trained and constant use.
Discernment is a habit we cultivate, not a one-time insight.
It grows as we:
– Saturate our minds with God’s Word.
– Rely on the Spirit for wisdom.
– Test everything against the truth.
– Practice choosing what is excellent.
Neutrality might feel polite. But in reality it exposes others to the ravages of darkness.
True love discerns. It clings to what is good and rejects what is evil (Romans 12:9).
And it seeks to bring others into the light.
