A perspective from history that gives great hope

by | Jun 6, 2023

Today marks the anniversary of D-Day, June 6, 1944.

On this day over 180,000 Allied soldiers invaded Western Europe to defeat Nazi Germany.

The invasion went miraculously well, with many fewer casualties than expected.

In fact, it went so well observers believed D-Day assured an Allied victory in the war.

Although fighting continued for another 13 months, the observers where correct.

And on May 8, 1945, Western Allies celebrated V-E (Victory in Europe) Day.

D-Day and V-E Day were both momentous events in history.

But they also illustrate current realities of God’s kingdom.

The ministry of Jesus — including His life, death, resurrection and ascension — represents a D-Day of sorts…

When God made certain the victory of His kingdom.

This is why Jesus could say, “It is finished” on cross (Jn. 19:30).

But our work is not done.

The world, flesh and the devil still put up a fight.

And we still struggle with principalities and powers…

As we look forward to the consummation of all things… when every knee will bow and every tongue will confess Jesus is Lord.

Yet we do so in hope…

Knowing the final victorious outcome is assured.

Let this hope spur you on…

While you labor for the Lord during this interval in history in your own unique place…

Confident that a total win lies ahead.

‘Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 15:57).
