A society without children

by | May 3, 2024

Birth rates are the lowest they’ve ever been in the U.S.

For some perspective…

In 1960 the average U.S woman gave birth to 3.65 children.

Today that number has dropped to 1.6.

In order to replace ourselves we need a birth rate of at least 2.1.

There are various reasons for falling birth rates.

Near the top of the list is that we’ve devalued marriage and parenthood.

This all has enormous implications for the future…

Especially since children are the future of society.

This trend reveals the need to encourage marriage and parenthood…

And take heed to one of the most fundamental directives of scripture:

“Be fruitful and multiply… (Gen. 1:28).

For years we’ve been hearing the world is becoming over-populated.

But for the first time since the Black Death (mid-1300s), the world’s population is set to fall.

God’s command to be fruitful and multiply has remained in force through history.

And it remains an important command to obey today.

A society without children has no future.
