Hey, there are TWO holidays this weekend.
Most Americans know one of them is Memorial Day.
But many may not know the other is Pentecost Sunday.
Memorial Day is a time for Americans to remember and honor those who died in its nation’s wars.
Pentecost is a day for believers to commemorate the giving of the Holy Spirit, to empower the Church and transform the world.
Since both holidays fall on the same weekend this year, it’s worthwhile to make a connection between the two.
With Memorial Day we have an occasion to remember there are those who went before and sacrificed on our behalf.
And with Pentecost we recall that through the Spirit, God’s work in history continues.
Both put us in a position to build upon the lives of those who have gone before us…
Which any of us can and should do…
As we remember the price so many paid for the blessings we enjoy today…
And we trust the Spirit to lead and empower us in all He calls us to do now.
That makes this weekend one to look back with grateful remembrance…
And look forward inspired with hope.
