Eight false ways to hate…
Charles Spurgeon once said, “It is good to be a good hater.”
Not of people, but of every false way.
False ways lead us away from God, and we must shun them.
Here are eight false ways to hate:
1) Self-will: Hate it by surrendering to God daily.
“Not my will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42).
2) Self-righteousness: Reject it by trusting in Christ’s righteousness.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8).
3) Self-seeking: Combat it by serving others selflessly.
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves” (Philippians 2:3).
4) Worldliness: Escape it by seeking first the Kingdom of God.
“Do not love the world or the things in the world” (1 John 2:15).
5) Pride: Fight it by humbling yourself and acknowledging God’s goodness toward you.
“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble” (James 4:6).
6) Unbelief: Overcome it by standing on His Word and trusting His character.
“I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24).
7) Hypocrisy: Resist it by living authentically before God.
“Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth” (1 John 3:18).
8) Lustfulness: Replace it by pursuing purity, honoring God with your body.
“Flee from sexual immorality… honor God with your bodies” (1 Corinthians 6:18, 20).
Hating these false ways aligns our hearts with God’s holiness.
It also positions you to do His will and fulfill your role in His kingdom.
Which of these do you need to reject today?
