Part of our ministry involves giving men the opportunity to share their life story with a small group of other men.
Most guys have never done anything like this before, so it can be a bit challenging.
But the sharing of one’s story is a really good exercise.
Because it helps men see how God has been at work in their lives…
While instilling gratitude for His grace…
And giving insight as to how He is calling a man to trust and serve Him today.
Everyone’s story has rough spots.
Spots anyone would wish were different.
Concerning these parts…
There’s a temptation to dwell on regrets or harbor resentments.
Yet it’s at these points we need to recall God’s providence.
God’s providence is that aspect of his nature that governs every detail life.
Reflecting on His providence puts us in a place where we can trust Him…
… with every part of our history — as well as the parts of our lives still to unfold.
Remembering God’s providence redirects the focus of our thoughts too…
So we spend less time asking “Why?” or “What if?” about our past…
And give more attention to noting how God has used every experience to shape how we can serve Him in a unique way now.
Ponder this as you think about your own story.
Be wary of wallowing in disappointments about your past.
Instead, consider how God can use every part of your story to help you know where to join Him in the greater story He is working out today.
“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose” (Rom. 8:28).
