One of the worst things about living in decadent times is it increases our tendency to get cynical and go dark.
Our fallen nature pushes us in that direction already.
But when evil is on the rise, it’s even easier to turn negative.
And make gloomy assumptions about the future.
But not so fast.
There are enduring truths that give us hope–while in the ebb and flow of good and evil.
Consider…
Ever since the Fall, God has been unfolding His plan of redemption.
Jesus–through His life, death and resurrection–assured this plan will be fulfilled.
And His kingdom continues to grow like yeast right now… in our lifetime.
The challenges of our time tempts us to doubt.
But God is always working to reverse the tide of sin.
And though we may see waves of evil, there are currents He’s moving beneath the surface…
To bring about changes that restore and renew.
So, for example…
Though a lot of ungodliness fills the headlines…
What’s unreported is that there’s a growing number who ‘hunger and thirst for righteousness’…
And Jesus promises ‘they will be satisfied’ (Mt. 5:6).
All of this to say…
We must walk by faith, not by sight (2 Cor. 5:7).
If we’re only living by what we see, we may as well call it quits.
But if by faith, we have every reason to keep plodding on in hope…
Knowing our labor in the Lord is not in vain (1 Cor. 15:58).
