Don’t be afraid to ask for help

by | Jul 24, 2024

Years ago I had a friend and classmate who always outscored me on tests.

It frustrated me because I knew I studied more than he did.

After about a year of puzzling over this, I realized the secret of his success.

He knew when to ask questions and wasn’t afraid to ask them.

The answers he got provided insight that put him at an advantage.

My friend was wise in asking questions.

It’s biblical too.

Jesus says: “Ask and it will be given to you…” (Mt. 7:7).

And James writes: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God…” (Jas. 1:5).

It’s common to hesitate to ask for help.

I suppose it’s because we’re reluctant to reveal our ignorance and dependence.

But God tells us to ask.

And if He directs us to ask Him for help, how much more should we be willing to ask mere men for assistance when we need it.

Plodding along on your own may seem noble, but there are areas where we all need help.

And we will be much more effective in whatever God wants us to accomplish when we’re willing to ask for it.
