Essential equipment for every soldier of God

by | Feb 29, 2024

Anyone who is paying attention can tell we are in a battle of good versus evil.

And you’ve been enlisted in this battle whether you like it or not.

So the issue for all is how to function effectively in spiritual war.

Surely the place to start is with what Paul calls the ‘full armor of God.’

I encourage you to read his description of it in Ephesians 6:10ff…

And make putting this armor on a part of your daily regimen, since you are a soldier of God.

Here, let’s note the pieces of armor he lists…

Belt of truth:

Everything is held together by the truth, so devote yourself to knowing, loving and walking in the truth. Hate and reject lies.

Breastplate of righteousness:

A guilty conscience makes a man weak and immobilizes him, so constantly protect your heart by remembering your righteousness comes from Christ.

Shoes of the gospel of peace:

Alienation from God and one another is at the core of the war we face, so always conduct yourself as an ambassador of reconciliation–no matter what your station in the battle.

Shield of faith:

God is calling you to take the land around you for His kingdom. This requires faith, so make every provision to keep your faith strong. Don’t be a slacker here.

Helmet of salvation:

In any battle the mind races, so guard your thought life. Start by securing your thoughts with the truth that you belong to God, and are safe with Him.

Sword of the Spirit (Word of God):

Disinformation, propaganda and God-defying ideas are central to the enemy’s strategy, so keep increasing your ability to handle God’s Word, to both defend yourself and gain ground for Him.

Paul finishes this passage by speaking of the need to pray.

Which makes complete sense, since it’s by prayer you put your armor on and keep it in place.

Dear friend, you may not want the battle.

But the battle wants you.

So prepare yourself.

Put on God’s armor every day. And advance in His way.
