The world needs men–like David–“after God’s own heart” (Acts 13:22).
But what does this really mean?
David’s life shows us it doesn’t mean living without failure–he had some major failures.
Rather, here are three key marks of living after God’s own heart::
1. A heart oriented toward pleasing God.
Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth…
For You are the God of my salvation.
(Ps. 25:4-5).
2. A heart quick to repent.
I acknowledge my transgressions… I have sinned…
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
(Ps. 51:3-4,10).
3. A heart committed to growth.
Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts.
And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
(Ps. 139:23-24)
Fulfilling God’s intent for your life depends on living in sync with Him.
But this doesn’t come naturally—it requires the supernatural work of God’s Spirit.
So guard against grieving the Spirit in your daily life.
Instead, seek to be filled and led by Him.
“For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God” (Rom. 8:14).
