Losing heart? Call on the name of the Lord

by | Oct 16, 2023

When the world forsakes God and becomes corrupt, good men can get demoralized.

But there is another option.

We can call on the name of the Lord and become revitalized.

Note…

The generation in which Cain killed Abel was a wretched one (Gen.4).

Yet, a turning occurs…

“Then men began to call upon the name of the LORD” (Gen.4:26).

It’s as if the people had enough…

They’re sick of struggling outside of God’s presence… they come to their senses… and they want Him back.

So they begin to call on His name — with their prayers, worship and devotion.

To call on the Lord for help is an essential, healthy practice that runs throughout the Bible.

And God promises….

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Joel 2:32; Rom. 10:13).

It behooves every warrior in God’s army to be well-trained in this practice.

Not just as it pertains to our own eternal salvation,

But as we seek to be faithful at our post in the long war against God.

So…

As we face the unbelief, lawlessness and compromised faith of our own day…

Let us not lose heart.

Rather…

Let us become more valiant for God.

And avowedly own Him as our Lord…

As we make it our habit to call on His name.

The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth (Ps. 145:18).
