Your work might be more ministry than you think

The spiritual service of meeting tangible needs…

My friend, Jay, served as a missionary in Russia after the fall of the Soviet Union.

Recently, he shared a conversation he had with a Moscow cab driver during that time.

When the cab driver learned Jay was there to distribute Bibles and start a Christian newspaper, he responded in a way that surprised my friend.

He said his family already had a Bible, and that they read it and prayed daily…

What they really needed, he added, was help for their economy—such as training, technology, and factories.

“If Christian businessmen would come and help in these areas,” he said, “it would change lives and open hearts.”

Too often, we think of ministry only in terms of preaching, teaching, or missions.

But this man saw something many of us miss: work itself can be ministry.

Providing jobs, training, and economic opportunity doesn’t just improve lives—it opens hearts for the gospel.

When believers bring biblical wisdom, excellence, and integrity into business, trade, and technology, they’re not just earning a living.

They’re advancing the kingdom.

Not everyone is called to be a pastor or a missionary. But every believer is called to serve through their own dominion calling.

So, whatever work God has given you to do—do it well.

See it as an opportunity to glorify Him, bless others, and advance His kingdom.

You may be ministering in ways you never imagined.

“Let our people learn to engage in good deeds to meet pressing needs, so that they will not be unfruitful.” (Titus 3:14).
