Never go negative again

by | Dec 18, 2023

Every fallen human heart has a tendency to go negative.

To think the worst. And get cynical when things don’t go as hoped.

When we head down this path we end up in a dark place.

And miss what God may be doing, all because of the way we’re looking at things.

But there is a way to avoid this downward spiral…

Which is:

Get in the habit of reframing whatever you’re facing from a biblical perspective.

The classic reframe in the Bible comes from the story of Joseph…

As he reflected on his imprisonment and said to his brothers…

What you meant for evil, God meant for good (Gen. 50:20).

The Bible has lots of other instances of reframing too…

Like when Paul noted how his hard circumstances “served to advance the gospel” (Phil. 1:2).

Or when James pointed out how our trials are not intended to ruin us, but give us endurance and joy on the road to completion (Jas. 1:2-4).

What a difference reframes like these can make.

They can take you from darkness to light in an instant!

So resist the impulse to go negative when you encounter something you don’t like.

And make a habit of reframing your situations to be more in line with God’s take on things.

I’ll leave you with a practical example of how this works, which may speak to a lot of people…

Current frame: My life is pointless.

Reframe: My life is significant, since God made me in His image to rule and cultivate my little portion of His world with Him (Gen. 1:28; 2:15).

Get reframing your life today.

It will never be the same again.
