Pursuing a revival of righteousness

by | Oct 12, 2023

Righteousness exalts a nation… (Pr. 14:34)

Are you troubled by our world’s continued slide into decadence?

And are you wondering what YOU can do about it?

If so, you are not alone.

But what shall we do?

A famous quote from a couple centuries ago gives us insight:

“Not until I went to the churches of America and heard her pulpits aflame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.”

These solemn words leave little question as to what we should be doing in the days…

And that’s pursue a revival of righteousness.

To have this as our goal is right in sync with the directions of Jesus…

… who tells us to make seeking His kingdom and His righteousness our priority (Mt. 6:33).

We begin such a pursuit by receiving the righteousness God gives ‘through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe’ (Rom.3:22).

We must start here.

Otherwise, we will find ourselves immobilized by the accusations of the devil — who seeks to constantly remind us of and condemn for our failings.

Yet, we must not stop at resting in the righteousness of Christ.

We must go on to reflect the righteousness God says we already possess in every area of life He calls us.

How do we do this?

With the light of Scripture.

The Bible tells us…

“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work” (2 Tim.3:16-17).

In other words…

It’s in applying God’s Word to whatever we’re facing that we discover what righteousness looks like and requires in our circumstances.

So then…

As you look on these troubled times with a heavy heart…

Wondering what you can do…

Pursue a revival of righteousness.

Never stop believing God, who justifies the ungodly and sets us free to serve Him (Rom. 4:5).

And follow this up by inclining your heart to the right in all you do (Eccles.10:2).
