Qualities of men who know who they are…

by | May 7, 2024

I’m finishing up a book to help men discover and live in keeping with their God-given identity.

For men to live faithfully and carry out the purpose He has for them, they MUST know who they are.

And, how well a man is able to navigate his life depends on the strength of his identity.

With this in mind, I offer these ten qualities of men who are strong in their identity.

They’re from chapter one of the forthcoming book.

Qualities of Men Grounded in Their God-Given Identity

1. Self-Awareness:

Attentive to their relationship with God, they have a growing understanding of their position as His sons, commissioned to live in the power of His grace..

2. Godly Confidence:

Knowing the faithful character of God, they approach life boldly, with confidence in His guidance, provision and unfolding plan.

3. Resilience:

Secure in God’s love and providential care, they are capable of bouncing back from adversity with faith, strength and perseverance.

4. Dependence on God:

Believing that God’s sovereignty and wisdom rule over all, they make decisions in line with biblical ideals, despite the pressure to give way to fear.

5. Emotional Intelligence:

Attuned to both the nature of man and the Spirit of God, they relate to others with understanding and compassion while keeping their emotional reactivity in check.

6. Integrity:

As heirs of the King, they stay true to kingdom principles, with a commitment to honesty, righteousness and moral uprightness, even when it’s difficult or unpopular.

7. Teachability:

Aware that they are fallen, finite men, they are open to correction and receptive to new ideas, without viewing them as a threat to their personhood.

8. Purpose:

Rooted in a knowledge of who they are as redeemed men, they live with meaning, purpose, and a strong sense of calling.

9. Authenticity:

Because they are secure in Christ, they care less about how they appear to others and more about living faithfully in the situations God has them.

10. Empowered by the Spirit:

Putting no confidence in the flesh, these men live in the power of the Holy Spirit to accomplish their God-given purpose, wherever He leads them.

May a growing number of men reflect these qualities as they come to understand–through faith–their own God-given identity.
