Yesterday I wrote about how we become vulnerable to distractions when we don’t have a compelling mission for our lives.
Since sending that message, I thought of another point on the topic.
Temptations are a type of distraction.
The classic illustration of this comes from the book of Proverbs.
There, the woman of folly calls out to those on their way to lead them astray (Pr.9:13-18).
The seductive woman of Proverbs 7 is out to do the same thing:
Lead men away from their calling and duty.
It’s noteworthy that the word seduction literally means ‘to lead away.’
And while seduction often has a sexual connotation, there are many ways we can be seduced from our path…
Temptations to overeat or drink, mindlessly scroll social media, or engage in gossip are all examples.
So be on guard…
The temptations you face seek to do more than make you sin.
They aim to distract you and lead you away from fulfilling God’s good purpose for you.
