When we hear “government,” most of us think of civil government.
But that’s just one part of the picture.
There’s also self-government, family government, and church government — and self-government is the foundation.
Good self-government sets the stage for strong families, healthy churches, and stable communities.
When we take responsibility for our own actions, thoughts, and choices, these other forms of government work as they should.
But without it, they end up shouldering more of the burden to keep society in line.
Self-government isn’t easy — it takes self-denial, discipline, and a willingness to submit to God’s direction.
But it’s also the way we glorify God, love others well, and live out the mission He has for us.
Thankfully, we’re not left alone in this.
In Christ, we have a new identity—one that equips us to grow in self-government with His grace and wisdom.
Remember, practicing faithful self-government doesn’t just benefit you.
It’s critical to the well-being of your family, church, and community.
When you govern yourself well, you cast a vote for others to thrive too.
Better self-government is a vital way the Spirit accomplishes His renewing work in our world.
Stay constant in asking for His help as you seek to grow in it.
“Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control” (Pr. 25:28).
