Everybody’s under pressure to produce and be efficient these days.
But we must not neglect to take time to rest.
God set the pattern for this when He rested after He created.
And this principle of rest remains for us.
We see it in His command to rest one day in seven.
And in the rhythm of day and night.
Some people have difficulty resting because there is so much to do.
But it’s in rest we gain perspective, anticipate eternity, and experience the joy of God’s goodness.
And this brings us the regular renewal we require.
Rest is an act of faith.
Whereby we express that the outcome of our concerns do not depend on us…
But on the one who holds all things together by the word of His power.
And finally…
We must remember we can only find the fulness of rest we need in Jesus, who said:
‘Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest’ (Mt.11:28).
Indeed, we all have a race to run.
But you will run your race best when you know how to rest.
