The world’s greatest counselor

by | Dec 7, 2023

In the Bible David interestingly calls God’s testimonies his “counselors.”

He says…

“Your testimonies are my delight; they are my counselors” (Ps. 119:24).

Isn’t it curious the way David personifies God’s instruction?

He makes it as though the Lord’s precepts, commands and laws are human advisers.

This probably explains why David excelled as a poet, shepherd, warrior and king…

Indeed, he had human counselors — like Ahitophel and Hushai…

But his number one adviser was God’s Word…

… which served him well… and never betrayed him!

Looking to God’s Word as primary adviser isn’t just for David.

It makes sense for us too.

We need wisdom in so many areas today.

And we can spend a lot of time, energy and money trying to find just the right person, expert or guru to help us.

When the reality is, the counsel we need most is often plain as day… waiting for us in the Bible.

I’m not saying there aren’t times to get advice or seek out a good counselor.

There certainly is…

And sometimes we need a multitude of counselors (see Pr. 15:22; 11:14; 24:6).

I’m just saying…

Don’t forget…

God’s Word is the world’s greatest counselor…

And we must keep it as the lamp for our feet and the light for our path (Ps. 119:105).

With Scripture, you may not always like the counsel you get.

But it will never lead you astray.

… the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple (Ps. 19:7).
