We’re all aware of the rise of censorship these days…
… in big tech, the media, schools, civil government, etc.
But we may be overlooking the worst kind of censorship…
Which is self-censorship.
We self-censor whenever we silence ourselves…
… because we’re afraid of what might happen if we speak up…
… or assume our words will have no effect.
Such censoring has become common.
And it’s easy to do…
Since avoiding controversy seems simpler and safer.
But in this we must beware…
Censoring ourselves is destructive.
It brings ruin.
God has given us the ability to speak.
And we’re to use this gift to create a flourishing culture in partnership with Him.
If we go silent, our surroundings become barren and hopeless.
Which makes censoring ourselves the worst.
So we need to speak up with grace and truth…
… as a means of bringing life to our world.
Obviously…
We must use wisdom, skill and good timing whenever we open our mouths.
But we cannot forget…
There is a time to remain silent and a time to speak (Ecc. 3:7)…
And when it’s time to speak, we should speak.
