10 issues Christians must speak into…
One of the strengths of the Puritans was the way they applied the Bible to all of life.
We’re not nearly as good at that.
We do tend to excel in extolling the grace of God–but we often fall short in showing how that grace is meant to transform all the domains of God’s world.
This got me thinking.
What issues would the Puritans speak to if they were alive today?
And what are the issues we need to bring God’s truth to—intentionally and boldly?
I made a list of 10 issues we need to speak into more consistently.
Here they are, with a short explanation why each one matters:
1. Biblical Authority vs. Cultural Conformity
We live in a time when cultural opinion often overrides Scripture, so we must recommit to living by God’s Word as our ultimate standard in every area of life.
2. The Role of Government and Civil Disobedience
Understanding the proper limits of civil authority is essential, because when the state oversteps its bounds, faithful resistance may be required.
3. Sexuality, Gender, and the Created Order
God’s design for men, women, marriage, and the body is under attack, and embracing His order is crucial for human flourishing and gospel witness.
4. Male Passivity and Identity Confusion
Many men are unsure of who they are or what they’re for, but rediscovering God’s call to responsible, sacrificial leadership is key to restoring homes and communities.
5. The Idolatry of Safety and Comfort
A life driven by fear or convenience cannot fulfill the call of Christ, and now more than ever we need courage to choose obedience over comfort.
6. Technology and Discipleship
Screens and algorithms are shaping hearts and minds daily, which is why we need to be intentional about how we use technology and who is discipling us.
7. The Economic Discipleship Gap
Work, money, and productivity are deeply spiritual matters, and without wisdom in these areas, we risk both personal bondage and cultural compromise.
8. Sphere Sovereignty and Jurisdiction
God has assigned distinct roles to individuals, families, churches, and civil authorities, and honoring those boundaries is essential for justice and order.
9. The Sanctity of Life—from Womb to Tomb
Every human being bears God’s image, so defending life at every stage—from the unborn to the elderly—is a moral and spiritual imperative.
10. The Kingdom of God vs. the Religion of Statism
The state often demands ultimate loyalty, but our highest allegiance belongs to Christ and His Kingdom, not to any political system or government.
We need to give greater thought, attention, and voice to these issues.
The pulpit is a vital place to begin.
But the work belongs to all of us—learning to apply God’s grace and truth to every sphere of our lives.
The Puritans give us a helpful example.
But we need more than examples—we need the Spirit’s help for our time and context.
So pray God will show you where to begin.
And how you can take part in this kind of bold, faithful witness.
