What to do in times of turmoil

by | Mar 21, 2024

I will meditate on Your precepts and contemplate Your ways.
~Psalm 119:15

When you read the 119th Psalm it’s clear it was written during a time of turmoil.

A time of spiritual decline that made life confusing, disheartening and challenging.

But what’s most noteworthy about this psalm is what its writer (likely David) did during this time.

He devoted himself–in an obsessed kind of way–to knowing and following God’s ways…

… by learning and understanding His commandments, ordinances, precepts, statutes, etc.

He made this his pursuit like his life depended on it.

Here is an example…

Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes,
And I shall observe it to the end.
Give me understanding, that I may observe Your law
And keep it with all my heart.
~Psalm 119:33,34

I bring this up because there’s some light here for us.

We also live in confusing and challenging times.

Times that are difficult to navigate.

So what do we do?

I’m afraid for the majority it’s watch and worry.

But what if we committed ourselves to learning and understanding God’s instructions for living?

Making this a practice makes a lot of sense.

Our current secular liberal order is coming apart.

It’s absurdities, destructive effects and tyrannical impulse is becoming more evident by the day.

People see it.

And its collapse is coming.

When that happens, a lot of people are going to wonder what to do next.

We’ll need people ready to rebuild.

Who know how to apply the details of God’s Word to the nitty-gritty of everyday life.

And you may as well be among them.

For further inspiration, read and ponder Psalm 119 in its entirety.
