Where Have All the Babies Gone?

by | May 7, 2025

What shrinking families say about our faith…

Have you noticed there aren’t as many babies around?

It’s not just in your head. The numbers confirm it.

For decades, we were warned about overpopulation—too many mouths, not enough resources.

But the opposite is happening.

Across the Western world, birth rates have dropped below replacement levels.

This isn’t just a demographic dip.

It’s a civilizational crisis.

No society can survive—let alone flourish—if it stops welcoming children.

Plenty of solutions have been proposed: tax breaks, childcare subsidies, housing incentives.

They may help. But they don’t get to the root.

At the heart of this crisis is a loss of faith.

—Faith that sees marriage as good.
—Faith that welcomes children as a blessing.
—Faith that builds families, trusting God to provide.

This kind of faith goes back to God’s original design: “Be fruitful and multiply.”

Modern unbelief has taught us to delay, detach, and avoid the very things that make life rich and meaningful.

We’ve traded the gift of generational fruitfulness for the illusion of personal freedom.

And we’re suffering for it.

But the way back is the same as it’s always been:

A return to faithfulness…

With faith that trusts God’s design.

And faith that lives it out—in marriage, family, and hope for the future.

This isn’t just about having kids.

It’s about living in sync with God’s intent for humanity.

And it all starts with faith.

Unbelief hollows out families and legacies.

Faith restores them.
