Your Life on God’s Stage: Drawing Biblical Wisdom from Shakespeare’s Famous Lines

by | Jul 1, 2024

There are famous lines from Shakespeare that read:

“All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts.”

Some think these words reflect a pessimistic view of life—even fatalistic.

Yet there are definitely positive truths here…

You live your life on a stage where you impact others.

You also have a part to play in our Creator’s drama unfolding through history.

But your part is limited, with only so many days to carry it out.

And in this time you have various roles to fulfill.

So I’d say there’s a lot of biblical wisdom in this well-known stanza from Shakespeare.

And it should prompt us to be faithful in the unique parts God has given us in His story.

“Only fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart. For consider what great things he has done for you” (1 Samuel 12:24).
