Christians don’t talk much about good works these days.
I suppose it is for fear of appearing legalistic or contrary to grace.
But doing good does not contradict grace.
Grace makes doing good possible, and is evidence of it.
So executing good works is something we should be very much interested in.
Especially when we consider what the Bible says about the topic.
First…
Jesus tells us we are salt and light, made to influence the world.
But without ‘good works’ we can’t point others to God.
And we become good for nothing, like a lamp covered by a cardboard box (Mt. 5:13-16).
Further…
The Apostle James tells us just saying we have faith is useless…
Without works, faith is dead (Jas. 2:14-17).
On top of this…
The Apostle Paul adds a couple of stunners…
He explicitly states we’ve been crafted for good works–which God has already prepared for us to do (Eph. 2:10).
And…
That Jesus gave Himself for us to redeem us from lawlessness, and purify us…
… so we would be zealous for good deeds (Titus 2:14).
All this leads to a natural application, in our own lawless times:
By God’s grace and all means…
Figure out what good works He has suited you to do and go do them!
