Who else feels useless?

by | May 31, 2023

Everyone I know wants their life to count and make a difference.

But so many look at themselves and wonder…

“What have I accomplished?”

“Does my life even matter?”

The Apostle Peter addresses this by promoting a subject we’ve seem to have forgotten:

Virtue.

When we think of living a life of significance, we tend to measure ourselves by what we’ve done.

Or the recognition we’ve received.

But Peter has us looking in a different place…

He lists a number of moral virtues…

Like diligence, moral excellence, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, love…

And He tells us…

If these qualities are ours and are increasing, they render us neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord (2 Pet. 1:5-8).

In a day when virtue is in short supply, Peter’s words provide a needed adjustment as we think about the impact of our lives.

So instead of fretting over how little we think we’ve produced or have been noticed…

We can turn our attention to what makes us most useful in God’s kingdom…

And that’s to reflect a growing presence of God-defined virtues in the places He calls us.

So, you want to make your life more useful?

Make virtue a priority wherever the Lord has you.

We underestimate the impact of a virtuous life.

And pursing it will assure you’ll never be useless or unfruitful.
