Why So Many Men Feel Their Lives Don’t Matter

by | Mar 6, 2026

The personal, cultural, and biblical reasons men think their lives don’t count…

If men hunger for significance, why do so many feel like their lives don’t make a difference?

Part of the answer is personal…

Many men carry a sense of self-condemnation.

They see their failures and conclude they’re disqualified from having an impact.

Part of the answer is cultural…

Our culture has long treated men as unnecessary—sometimes even as a problem to be managed rather than a gift to be developed.

And part of the answer is biblical…

The Fall didn’t just introduce sin into the world. It distorted our understanding of who we are.

So men forget who God made them to be.

And this is why many men lack confidence, direction, and hope.

But Scripture gives us a better starting point.

Before sin entered the world, God created man in His image and gave him a clear calling:

“So God created man in his own image…” (Gen. 1:27)

Your identity begins there.

You were made to reflect God’s character in the world.

And from that identity flows your purpose—to be fruitful, to cultivate, to build, and to extend God’s order in the places He has assigned to you.

When a man recovers his identity before God, clarity returns—and he sees the part he is to play in His world.
