How to increase your hunger for God’s Word

by | Jan 19, 2024

If you view Bible reading mainly as an obligation, you’ll have a hard time maintaining it as a regular part of your life.

But if you see it as food to live by, it’ll become an everyday habit… just like eating dinner.

This makes sense since the Bible refers to itself as essential spiritual nourishment…

… Peter calls it pure spiritual milk, necessary for growing up into salvation (1 Pet. 2:2)

… The psalmist describes God’s words as sweeter than honey (Ps. 119:103).

… And Jeremiah speaks of how he ate them and they became a joy to his heart (Jer. 15:16).

These verses and others tell us of the goodness and nourishing quality of God’s Word.

So, if you want to improve your Bible reading habits…

Keep in mind…

Your hunger for scripture will increase when you think of it less as a duty to keep…

And more as food you must consume for your well-being.

As Jesus put it…

“Man cannot live on bread alone, but every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God” (Mt. 4:4) .

One of the greatest turning points of a man’s life is when he realizes God’s Word must be a regular part of his diet.
