Cheer up, it’s still early

by | Apr 18, 2024

People often look at our troubled world and assume the end is near.

They think all the problems we see are signs history is about to come to a close.

And that Jesus must be returning soon.

But if we look to the Bible, God seems to have a larger timeframe in mind.

The Ten Commandments passage tells us God’s blessings extend to thousands of generations of those who keep His commandments (Exodus 20:5-6) .

Thousands of generations is a long time.

In recorded history so far there’s only been about 100 to 150 generations (assuming a generation is somewhere around 40-60 years).

So if we take the Bible seriously, it’s still early.

We have a long way to go.

And the kingdom of God on earth is only in its infancy.

Looking at time with this framework has important implications…

1) It gives hope, as we are still learning, growing and figuring things out

2) It shows the need to think beyond our immediate survival to cultivating a vision for the future

3) And also reveals the importance of preparing the next generation to serve and lead in God’s kingdom

Let these implications shape your own view of the future…

And how you invest your time, gifts and resources.

Only God knows how much time the world has left.

But from what He’s revealed, we have reason to believe it’s still early (Dt. 7:9-11).
