Leading in an Age of Anxiety

by | Sep 16, 2025

Staying clear-headed in the midst of uncertainty…

There’s no shortage of anxiety in our cultural moment.

People all around are troubled, worried, and on edge.

And it’s into this environment God calls men to lead.

But the leadership that’s needed is not what you might think.

It’s not about having the right style or perfect plan.

It’s about keeping a clear head when things get messy.

Staying calm, strong, and steady—

Grounded in the one who knows all things and in whom all things hold together.

This is where the Bible’s call to sober-mindedness comes in (1 Pet. 1:13).

Scripture urges us to lead with emotional maturity, spiritual alertness, and an anchor in the truth.

Here’s what this looks like in practice:

1. Be the calm in the storm.

Don’t just react—steady the room.

2. Know who you are.

Stay rooted in your identity and calling without being hijacked by others’ emotions or expectations.

3. Expect resistance.

Don’t shrink back when it comes—press forward with faith and love.

Anxiety is contagious—but so is peace.

When you carry the calm presence that comes from walking with God, it transforms the environments you’re in.

So where do you need sober-mindedness right now?

You don’t have to summon it up yourself.

The Spirit will give you a clear mind, a calm heart, and a courageous spirit when you ask Him.

And this will equip you for the kind of leadership our current moment needs.
