Discernment and dominion…

It’s important to form opinions, and be willing to take a stand.

Many men are reluctant to do so.

But this is part of what it means to be a Christian man.

When it comes to the issues of life, Scripture calls us to:

-Have a renewed mind (Rom. 12:2)

-Judge with discernment (1 Cor. 2:15–16)

-Look beyond appearances (Jn. 7:24)

-Incline our hearts to wisdom and understanding (Pr. 2:2–5)

This isn’t theory.

It’s something to put into practice in our everyday affairs.

And it connects directly to our dominion calling.

When God commanded Adam to “cultivate and keep” the garden (Gen. 2:15), He wasn’t just giving him physical work…

…He was giving him moral and spiritual responsibility.

To cultivate means to promote what is good—to nurture, develop, and bring forth fruit.

To keep means to protect against what is evil—to guard, preserve, and defend what’s entrusted.

To do either well, a man must be able to discern what is good and what is evil.

And discernment is impossible without a clear, godly perspective.

So make it your habit to think God’s thoughts after Him—in all the issues you face.

It’s the only way to tend what He has given you well.
