The Desire to Matter

by | Mar 5, 2026

God designed your life to count…

Men want their lives to matter.

To see themselves as part of a larger story.

They want their work to count…

They want to know their days are not being wasted…

They want to give themselves to something that will outlast them.

Sometimes men feel they should ignore this desire—as if wanting significance were selfish or prideful.

But Scripture says otherwise.

God has put eternity in our hearts (Eccl. 3:11).

He placed in us a deep awareness that life is meant to connect to something larger and lasting.

And He assures us our efforts do make a difference.

“… our labor in the Lord is not in vain.” (1 Cor. 15:58).

Faithful work in God’s kingdom carries eternal significance.

Jesus Himself affirmed the value of faithful stewardship when He said:

“Well done, good and faithful servant… You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much” (Mt. 25:21).

This reflects the operating system God built into creation.

From the beginning, He designed men to be fruitful, to cultivate and keep what He has entrusted to them… and to exercise faithful dominion under His authority.

When a man understands this design, he sees the value of his days.

And he pursues the purpose God has for him, working toward a life that glorifies Him and expands His kingdom.

So the desire to make a mark with your life is not something to ignore or take lightly.

You were made for this.

You were made for dominion.

Clarity here is where finding your place in God’s story begins.
