Resourcefulness for an unscripted world…
Many men remember the old television show MacGyver.
The main character was admired for one simple reason: he could solve problems when no one else could.
He didn’t rely on strength, authority, or perfect conditions.
He understood how things worked. And had a willingness to act.
So with a paper clip, duct tape, or a pocketknife, he found a way forward when others were stuck.
He was what we’d call “resourceful.”
That’s what made him effective. And it’s why the character still resonates.
Most men today were trained for something very different.
We learned how to follow systems, meet expectations, and give the “right answer.”
We passed tests and fulfilled roles.
But when life presents unscripted problems—at home, at work, or in leadership—we can feel at a loss.
Recalling MacGyver helps because it reminds us: real life doesn’t come with a manual.
And no matter what, someone still has to take responsibility and make things work.
The Bible consistently affirms this kind of resourcefulness.
– God commends servants who multiply what they’ve been given (Matt. 25)
– Proverbs praises diligence, foresight, and applied wisdom
– Joseph prepared grain for a famine
– Nehemiah assessed, planned, and rebuilt the walls
– And it all began with Adam, called to work and keep the garden (Gen. 2:15)
To rule, cultivate, and protect—to truly exercise dominion—takes creativity, foresight, and initiative.
So faithfulness in God’s world is active, inventive, and solution-oriented.
Resourcefulness grows when men:
– Learn principles, not just procedures
– Take responsibility for outcomes, not excuses
– Practice acting with what’s already in their hand
– Depend on God while refusing passivity
The world God made doesn’t need more men who merely conform.
It needs men who can think, act, and build.
