The Parts of Your Story You Didn’t Choose

by | May 6, 2026

You can’t change them, but you can trust God in them…

Everyone has parts of their story they’d write differently.

But the reality is, we all have elements we didn’t choose and can’t change.

The temptation is to obsess over them.

To replay what should have been. To grumble. To see yourself as a victim.

This temptation is common… but it will keep you stuck.

Not just in the past, but from moving into what God is calling you to now.

But there is a better way.

It starts with recognizing the Lord as sovereign over all… and humbly submitting yourself under His mighty hand.

Believing His good providence is always at work

Jesus demonstrated this when He said, “Not my will, but yours, be done” (Luke 22:42).

He didn’t want the pain.

But He surrendered to the Father, trusting His purpose.

This is what it looks like to entrust yourself to God. Even when circumstances are hard.

There comes a point when you must accept the difficulties of your story.

If you don’t, you can’t move forward.

So when you look at the parts of your story you would write differently, don’t ask, “Why is this happening to me?”

Ask, “What is God doing through this?”

When you do, something shifts.

You’ll start seeing what looked like evil as something God is using for good.

Your story is not over.

God is at work in it.

So stay in the story He is writing.

Accept where He has you.

Trust Him there.

And live with faithful anticipation.

He is at work.

“I trust in you, O Lord; I say, ‘You are my God.’ My times are in your hand” (Psalm 31:14–15).
