Civilization depends on the formation of families…
May has traditionally been known as “marriage month.”
But have you noticed?
There are not as many weddings as there used to be.
And it’s not just your imagination.
The statistics bear it out.
In 1985, nearly 68% of men were married by age 30.
In 2025, that number has fallen to around 16%.
This isn’t a minor cultural shift.
It’s a civilizational one.
Why is this happening?
There are likely many causes:
– We stopped valuing family life
– We elevated comfort, entertainment, and careerism
– Hostility between the sexes has grown
– Sexual promiscuity disconnected intimacy from covenant
– The cost of living has made family formation feel out of reach
But underneath it all is something deeper:
We have ignored God’s creational design.
Marriage, children, meaningful work, and household responsibility are not arbitrary social traditions.
They are part of how God ordered the world to flourish.
The family is one of God’s primary institutions for cultivating people, transmitting wisdom, establishing stability, and building the future.
Strong marriages help form strong men, strong women, strong children, and ultimately strong societies.
This is dominion work.
When marriage declines, it is not merely a private issue.
It affects the future of communities, churches, nations, and generations yet unborn.
So do not respond to the decline of marriage with indifference.
Pray for healthy marriages.
Encourage young men toward responsibility and covenant faithfulness.
Honor family life.
Help build a culture where commitment, fruitfulness, and generational vision are valued again.
